- Organized 1 October 1917 in the Maryland National Guard as the Band, 115th Infantry, an element of the 29th division, at Camp McClellan, Alabama.
- Demobilized 7 June 1919 at Camp George G. Meade, MD.
- Reorganized and redesignated 1 May 1940 as the Band, 1st Infantry.
- Redesignated 1 January 1941 as the Band, 115th Infantry, an element of the 29th Division (subsequently the 29th Infantry Division).
- Inducted into Federal service 3 January 1941 at Frederick, MD.
- Participated in the D-Day invasion and landed on Normandy Beach as part of the 29th Infantry Division.
- Disbanded 1 October 1943 in England.
- Reconstituted 25 August 1945 in the Maryland National Guard and consolidated with the 29th Infantry Division Band (active), the Band, 175th Infantry, and the Band, 29th Division Artillery; consolidated unit concurrently reorganized and redesignated as the 29th Infantry Division Band.
- 29th Infantry Division Band inactivated 17 January 1946 at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey.
- Reorganized and Federally recognized 17 January 1946 at Baltimore, MD.
- Reorganized and redesignated 1 March 1959 as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment and Band, 29th Infantry Division Trains.
- Reorganized and redesignated 1 March 1963 as Headquarters, Headquarters and Band, 29th Infantry Division Support Command.
- Reorganized and redesignated 1 March 1964 as Headquarters, Headquarters Company and Band, 29th Infantry Division Support Command.
- Reorganized and redesignated 21 January 1968 as the 229th Army Band and relieved from assignment to the 29th Infantry Division.
